Default burning coolant

hi, im a new member since today but i have been looking on here since a couple months to troubleshoot some minor problems on my 98 4x4 blazer.
i speak french so if you dont understand what i say feel free to tell me !

-my problem is my truck is burning about 1/4 gallon of coolant every full tank of gaz. i notice it needs coolant because i loose heat inside the truck.
(the plastic reserve tank is empty)

-i dont think its my heater core leaking because i dont have fog problems.
-sometimes it will run rough in the morning but its fine after a couple minutes(it didnt do that before)
-it does not leak outside the truck on the ground
-it does smell burnt coolant outside the truck around the engine when turning it off after a ride.
-engine oil looks fine and the level is ok

anyone can help me ?

thanks,
Anthony.

I'd be checking your lower intake manifold gasket. Check the Tech Articles (DIY) section for a how-to.

Also, I'd check the water pump carefully while the engine is running, if possible. If coolant's coming out the weep hole, it's time to replace it.

This is a weep hole. The pump is different from ours, but it will be in roughly the same place.

It is located at the bottom of the water pump, below the pulley. It can be hard to see. You can use a small mirror and a flashlight to help you see it. It should be dry.

It only (generally) leaks from that hole under pressure, ie when the engine's running. A hot engine burns it off, the serpentine belt throws it all around....

Mine was bad enough it would leak even while stopped. There was a slow, steady drip when you looked underneath.

i went to the garage this morning, and they found a leak on the front driver side and on the rear in the center on the intake manifold gasket.

gasket set 70$
coolant gal 17$
oil change 30$
oil treatment 5$
installation 450$(7 hrs)
(all price are canadian)

lets hope it wont burn anymore coolant !

one last question, since 2 days, i noticed a knocking sound and a rough idle when i start it up in the morning, it last about 30-45 sec and goes away and runs normal.

garage told me a lifter is discharging and its a big job.
he also told me to put the oil treatment at every oil change from now on.
because coolant messed my valve, lifter or something...
what do you think ?

thanks !

have you tried to put some seafoam solvent into the oil? it sounds like some crud is stuck in the lifter oil hole. add seafoam to engine oil and drive for 60 miles the do a complete oil change and filter. then listen for any noise. if noise is still present, then you have to pull out the lifter. it is a big job.
