Default RE: camshafts

Many different manufacturers make aftermarket cams for the 4.3L engine. Comp Cams and Crane both have a selection of varying profiles. Each profile has its pros and cons which will need to be weighed before a certain grind is selected. I would start by browsing through sites like SummitRacing.com, Jegs.com, and a few other similar sites for options. You should get a good picture of what manufacturers make cams for this engine. From there, you will need to look at the specifics of each grind and what the pros/cons are. I know that Comp Cams has a very good tech line as I have called it a few times for advice, last time being a few years ago... Do not be afraid to contact the manufacturer and ask questions on the benefits (power, torque, mileage, etc) and likely downsides (idle quality, vacuum strength, etc) of each grind that you are researching. The cam is the heart of the engine. Sometimes without other supporting mods (exhaust, head work, etc), the full potential of a cam cannot be realized.
