Car won't start

I have a 1983 Chevy S10 Blazer. I started it and the motor sounds rough and loud and it won't move when I put it in gear. What could this be???

So, Does it not start? or just not move? the not moving would be the trans, granted the engine is actually engaging the tranny. check linkages. post more info on your viecle specs and the prob to get more insight.
