Default Check Engine Light

My check engine light came on when i started my blazer at work last night to come home. I went to Auto Zone and had them do their lil free check engine service.. it came up as EVAP.. what should i check? i checked the gas cap, i jus got done disconnecting the battery, gunna go out and reconnect it in a bit and see if it comes back on.

Also i replaced my belt yesterday as well, and now its squealing really bad, the first belt i bought yesterday wouldnt go on, couldnt get it around the alternator, i had the tensioner pulled all the way back as well. and that was the one their computer told me to get, so i had to go back and get one that was bigger by about an inch, it was still tight getting on but manageable. But now its squealing frequlenty.. what could be the cause of this? too big of a belt?

What was the specific code? There are many EVAP related codes all of which have different diagnostic steps.

Have you recently filled up with fuel? If so, check the gas cap.

P0400 == Exhaust Gas Recirculator Flow

LOL! Nothing to do with the EVAP system at all.

The EGR valve is located on the front of the engine and is about the size of a soda can. I would start by getting a new gasket (one with a screen in it) and thoroughly cleaning the valve with some sensor safe carbon cleaner. Disconnect the battery before removing the sensor. Then unplug the electrical connection, unbolt the valve, and clean off the old gasket. Clean the valve and reassemble with the new gasket. Hook up the electrical connection and then the battery. See if the code comes back. If it does, you may need a new EGR valve.

Do you know the part number of the belt that they gave you? Depending on the brand, the belt part number should either begin or end with 960 (not 872 which is the belt for A/C applications. I am partial to the Goodyear Gatorback belts in this application as the pattern in the grooves allows the belt to wrap better, providing better traction. The proper number for your application with the Gatorback belt is 4060960 from Autozone.

As far as EGR prices... From RockAuto.com, you are looking at $140 for the AC Delco unit. From Autozone, the Wells/Duralast unit costs $151. I would go with the AC Delco unit. If you have an AC Delco retailer close, it should be the cheapest bet.

the belt i tried first was a Gates 060960 but it was wayyy to tight, i needed about a 1/4" more even with the tensioner all the way down, so they gave me a 060970 and it went on tight as well but not near as tight as the 960. But its been squealing alot randomly
