Check engine light
 
anybody know anything about a charcoal canister that deals with fumes from the gas tank and lines when the vehicle is not running

called the evap canister. located drivers side, in the rear bumper end.

If you are having a problem with it, replace the filter before you go and replace the whole thing. It could save you some $$

it's back by the bumper? do you know hom much it is to replace the filter and if its easy.

Give us some more info..why do you think it needs replacing? The problem with the Evap system is that it is very hard to trace the actual problem. What was the actual code number (P_ _ _ _) for your evap fault?

It is inside the bumper end cap, just to the left of the shackle and leaf spring. If you look under the truck back there, its the big black box with lines running to it. If you're dead set on replacement, the canister runs ~$100 online, parts stores will be a little more. Could also be a solonoid or valve, each running ~$30-50

1992 S10 Blazer. CODE 45. O2 sensor indicates rich exhaust. which is true on start up. also check the evaporative charcoal canister and it's components for presence of fuel andchange O2 sensor. which i have done.
