Default Chilton Repair Manual # 28160

I'm not positive this is the bast place for this, yet it seems the best place at the moment. This is a question about a Chilton Repair Manual # 28160 and what it list for a 92 S10 4.3 W engine.

I recently bought Chilton General Motors Repair Manuel for Blazer/Jimmy/Typhoon/Bravada 1983-93 Repair Manual. On page 2.5 it list 'Tune-Up Specifications,' for the 92 S10 W engine it lists this for Fuel Pump PSI, 9-13.

Now I wonder, can this book be trusted if they do not know that this engine will not start if it has only 9-13 pounds of fuel pressure, it takes at least 55 pounds of fuel pressure for this engine to start?

Is there a much better repair manuel for a 92 S10 Blazer 4.3 W engine 4 X 4?

Also to me it seems to give much information for the 4.3 Z-engine, and little information for the 4.2 W-engine. Of course that disappoints me being as I have no use for the Z-engine information and much use for the W-engine information.

Thanks,
JustJerry

I believe the 92 4.3 is TBI (throttle body injection) and would need 9-13 psi fuel pressure to operate correctly.

So, you need to pull the air cleaner and see if you do infact have the TBI setup. If so, then the book is correct. If you don't, then I am incorrect.

As for the better manual, look for the actual factory service manuals on Ebay...they are the best ones. YOu can actually find them generally for about 70 bucks or so

Thanks for the replies.

AJBert, It sounds as if you fail to understand what I wrote in my previous post.

The question isn't whether I've got a Z engine with Throttle Body Injection or a W engine with Central Multi-Port Fuel Injection , for I have a W engine with Central Multi-Port Fuel Injection.

The question is about the fuel pressure the Chilton's manual list for the 92-93 S10 4.3 W Central Multi-Port Fuel Injection engine.

The Chilton's manual list the 92-93 S10 4.3 W Central Multi-Port Fuel Injection engine having 9-13 pounds of pressure.

Hope that helps your understanding, for the 4.3 W Central Multi-Port Fuel Injection engine will not even start if it does not have at least 55 pounds of fuel pressure.

And before you ask, the Chilton's Manuel does list the 4.3 Z with Throttle Body Injection engine, and it calls for 9-13 pounds of fuel pressure.

jbsnowboarder16, Can you give the name along with a number for the manuel your speaking of. I come across 1 General Motors repair manuel for the 92 S10, yet I had no idea at all what if it covers and hated to be out $70.00 something dollars not knowing what I was getting.

And rightly the point of my post was to see if anyone had come across this mistake, and or if others had seen any more mistakes in the Chilton's Manuel for 83 to 93 S10 Blazers and such, plus hopefully help someone who is planning on buying a Repair Manuel in the future.

It should just be the General Motors Service Manual, normally its a multi-book set if I am not mistaken and will cover everything because this is the manual that service techs use in the dealership

You're right, Jerry, I didn't know what you were trying to convey. I'm not surprised you found an error in Chilton's at all.

What you want to find is the Factory Service Manual for your specific year. Yes, it will cover both Chevy and GM S-10/S-15 or Sonoma/Blazer/Jimmy, 2WD/4WD, and all engine/transmission options BUT it will cover exactly what you have in your ride with the correct information.

Plan on spending about $75 give or take. Ebay is your friend here.
