Default Cooling Issues

Been having some issues with the cooling system. Rapid flucuations in temperature, heater cutting out, etc. Replaced the thermostat, that wasn't the problem. Got steam coming out someplace now but can't pin down where. I'm thinking it's the water pump but don't have any experience on the newer cars in this regard. I am wondering if it could be anything else before I start taking things apart. Thanks in advance. 2000 Blazer LT 4WD 4.3 V6.

Have you checked your fan clutch? Make sure with the engine off, try to spin the fan by hand, you should feel a good amount of resistance and it should not just spin on its own.

You also said your heater doesn’t work. Sounds like your heater core is plugged up, or you have air in your cooling system.

Try flushing your cooling system really good, and use a cooling system bleeding funnel to get all the air out. Try this first, and if it doesn’t fix the issue, it’s probably the fan clutch,

. on the heater core having an air bubble or being plugged.

Topping off your cooling system on an incline with the front of the truck higher can help.
