I have a 1998 Chevy Blazer. The CV axle is sloppy engaged in transfer case. How can you replace gear CV axle goes into in transfer case? Do you have to pull transfer case or can you fix it while on the car from the side with CV axle off? (Driver side)
Thanks for any help!

not sure what you talking about a cv axle is the axle with the joint with a rubber boot around it filled with grease. those go from your front diff to your wheel bearing where the hub is. a axle or drive shaft goes from the transfer case to front and rear diffs those have u-joints on them.

Thanks in advance everyone who can give me some advice. On the driver side the cv axle broke in two ,so I replaced it .The gear that the axle goes into on the differential must have gotten damaged and needs to be replaced . I'm trying to find out if it can be fixed by pulling the cv axle out and repair it with differential in or does it have to be removed from truck and torn down. The axle is in with clip ring, but its sloppy with up and down movement and makes noise at slower speeds ,2wd and 4wd both work ,so I think I need to repair on differential side.please advise, thanks again.

The CV shaft uses a snap ring to hold it in place inside the front differential housing. If you push on it with slow, steady force you won't get it in place. You need a sharp, quick strike to get it in place properly. Check that first. Next, make sure that your wheel bearing is seated properly. Your CV shaft may not be in there properly. (quick way to tell if it's the wheel bearing, if the noise changes pitch when you move the wheel from side to side while driving, it's the bearing)
Double-check to make sure it's in there properly. I don't think you caught the snap ring properly.
