Default Engine differences

I had a bearing go in the engine and I'm searching for a new one...

im having trouble finding information on this, as I'm kinda tight on time I figured I'd ask for help.

I found a 4.3 vortec Z engine. I have a W engine. Are the base of the engines the same? Would I be able to swap the top end of the engine over? I read that itll be hard to swap from efi to carb, but I'm wondering about just swapping the base of the engine.

I'm not sure your location, but I'm in lower Ontario. And not really able to travel far for it. Thanks for the offer.

So I ve read that I'm looking for a 99 to 02 engine vin w.

my question now as I continue to search is if I get an 03 engine, is there anything I have to change in order the get it running AND working. So far I found 2 engines, both out of 03 s10 zr2, 1 comes with the vehicle so I get the computer and all.

I have a 1999 blazer 4 door lt 4x4 3 button

looking at a 03 sonoma zr2 3 button

would I be lucky enough to have found a "straight swap"?

You don't switch computers. Use your original in all cases.

2003-2004 Blazer 4.3 Vin X engine will work fine but you will need to adapt the mounting hole in the block to use the old style knock sensor from your 99 engine and install your old intake manifold (with EGR) valve. Best to just use all the stuff off your old engine - intake, exhaust manifolds, wiring, etc. Just use the long block on the new engine and switch all the stuff over. You really want to replace those intake gaskets anyway.

If you want to use an engine that you don't have to jack with knock sensor and intake manifold differences, get a 1996-2000 vin W engine. (2001 an 2002 vin W you still have the knock sensor mounting issue). Exhaust manifold may still be different from year to year so make sure you get all this stuff right if you don't want to run around with the SES light on.

So the mechanic had to adapt the sensors as mentioned, and use the original intake, he also had to use the drivers side exhaust manifold. Everything else worked out.

turning key tomorrow when everything is dry, will let you know if it runs lol.

Thanks! And thanks again for the input! Really helped solve most of the problems, lol. Ran into a throttle cable issue none related to the engine, so update tomorrow on the key turning lol.
