engine removal, need help!!
im removing the engine on my 98 gmc jimmy and we are having trouble lifting the engine up out, the oil pan and 4 wheel drive axle are hitting, anyone have any tips to getting it out/ anything else im gonna need to know when replacing it?
My tip is to get the engine as level as you can get it move it forward slowly to where the front of the oil pan is right at the axle then lift it straight up.Once you get it up over the axle take a block and put it behine the engine and the firewall.Readjust your leveler to where the engine is tilted. It should come right out.I took pics as I was removing mine If I can get some help on how to post them I show you better than how I can explain it.
Are you trying to pull your engine and trans together? If so its not going to work unless you remove the oil pan.Can you post a pic of what progress you made?If you are trying to pull your motor seperate and you are not using a chaine leveler you are going to have to adjust your chain to where its at an angle.Lift and rock back and forth it will come out.
then disconnect and lower your trans crossmember.let your trans tilt back at an angle and you should be able to remove the top 2 bolts with ease. Then you will have to remove the starter and remove your torque converter bolts.Once you do this your engine and trans should seperate off the dowl pins and your engine will start to move forward.Once it does your engine should be fairly easy to remove.
I tryed pulling my engine and trans together and ran into the same problem you are having.I decided that I would use the method Im describing to you as i beleive I found it on this site.Yes its extra work but its the only way you will be able to get the engine out without breaking anything.Cause of the deep oil pan and the fact its 4wd these engines are a pita to remove. This was my 1st 4wd engine I ever pulled it will be my last LOL.
