Default Engine Replacement Help Needed....

Hi all. I have an 89 Blazer 5.7L 350 TBI. I have been fixing her up. What I already have pertaining to the engine is as follows....Stage 1 Chip from Brian at Tbi Chips. K&N Powercharger air filter. CFM-Tech Throttle body. Cfm Tech powerplate Throttle body spacer, Hypertech Powercharger. Edelbrock 3704 intake manifold bored to 48mm. JBA Cat4ward shorty ceramic headers. Custom Y Pipe. Magnaflow high flow cat (i live in los angeles). Gibson cat back exhaust which exits behind driver side rear tire. She has a 700R4 transmission. The gearing right now is 3.73 but I plan on changing that to 4.56. I think that's all the important info for this question.

My question.....I need to get replacement engine. I need some help or advice on the route to take. I had originally planned on getting the AFR 180cc SBC Eliminator heads with the 65cc combustion chamber. A Comp Cam too....until my engine started to take a poop on me.

What is the right engine to choose? My target goal is 350hp and 400tq. Gas is to expensive to go any bigger. I am not rich by any means. She is my daily driver also.....

Thanks for your time and I can't wait for the input of my more experienced TBI Blazer fanatics.

Sincerely,
89k5. (or should I say V10) lol

To get 350hp/400tq out of the motor, you'll need better heads, a cam, and a good tune to tie it all together. Most aftermarket cams require a tune to keep things working properly.

Your gearing & tire size will both play into what you choose for a cam. 4.56's will make better use of high RPM power, but unless you are going to 37's or 38's, 4.56's are over kill. I have 33's on my '74 with 3.73's and it gets along just fine on the interstate although it does not have over drive like your 700R4 does, but it is just a plain old 350 with headers. I'll be moving to 4.10's when I install the 14BFF rear axle I have.

To keep down on the fuel costs, you should try to work on low RPM torque and not really worry too much about your power. A decent budget build could start with a Vortec 5.7L v8, a GM Performance 12496821 intake manifold, a mild RV type cam, and a good tune. You might not get the hp/tq numbers you wanted, but it would have pretty good low RPM torque which will get you moving & keep you moving when in OD.

Or you could go with something like THIS which would be dead nuts reliable and a stump puller as well (just one of the first links that came up when searching for the intake manifold PN).
