Not sure what infomration your looking for.
Yes the newer fuel pumps are expensive. You are replacing everything, the fuel pump, and the fuel sending unit for your gas guage, plus they are pushing considerable more pressure then the old fuel pumps. There is a tag on top of the fuel pump, you need that number in order to get the right part.

Why do they fail, simple, low gas in the tank. These things are cooled by gas, if you are constantly running the tank down to e before refilling it, your reducing its life span. When they get hot, the seals wear out faster. Keep it around 1/4 tank and it will live longer.

Now if your looking for info on how to replace it yourself.
Simple. Get a Haynes manual. If your considering doing this yourself. Post up and I can go into more details. It really simple. Two words of caution. Gas weighs 8 pounds per gallon. 10 gallons of gas is 80 pounds. Gas fumes are highly explosive. An empty tank is more dangerous then a full one.
