HELP No crank just clicking
OK so here's what happened; Back in Nov I was driving along when suddenly there was a 'thunk' and the engine died and had to be towed home. At first I thought it was a timing chain issue and since I'm open to the elements when working on the vehicle I left it be till now.
Today I went to see if I could find the problem but when I tried starting it all I get is clicking and the crank won't turn over. I fully charged my battery first and I even tried boosting it but get the exact same results. Starter was fine prior to the sudden shutdown event.
What I've checked and confirmed isn't the problem is;
Timing chain - I first pulled the dist cap to check if timing chain broke. The rotor turns so I would assume the timing chain didn't break.
Fuel - Good pressure. Pump and filter were replaced roughly 6 months prior.
Air - No obstructions
All fluid levels are good.
Can't check timing.
The only thing I haven't done is to see if it is seized by manually turning the crankshaft and since rain is in the forecast for the next 2 days I'll have to wait.
In the meantime about all I can do is reach out for any suggestions on what else could cause the engine to suddenly shut down.
Oh BTW the engine in question has roughly 260000 kms or 162000 miles on it.

The only way I can explain it is; when I was attempting to start it (straight from battery and with boosting) with the key the starter was engaging the flywheel, as it did so, the crank would move ever so slightly. I say this because of the placement of the contact point of the rotor. My attempts at starting moved the rotor from facing almost in direct line with the front of the motor, I stopped when I noticed the contact point had moved from it's original position towards the pass side. It was no complete rotation by any means, if anything it moved like 1/4 of 1/4 rotation or 2-3 degrees from it's original position.
