HELP! Tranny/RPM Issues
All,
Sorry, rookie here with a Mopar history.
The issue is my son's 99 Blazer ZR2, 4.3, auto 4x4, 110,000 miles. He bought it 2 months ago, changed the trans fluid and filter, no issues in pan, fluid wasn't burnt. Oil Change. truck drove great.
Tonight he's coming home from work (A local Salvage Yard) and was driving for about 5 minutes, 40-55 mph, no issues. Stops at a stop sign, still running and idleing with no issues at a stop sign, and then as he moves from a dead stop and goes 3-4 feet and it felt like someone stepped on a clutch and it bogged down. He kept his foot steady on the gas and it caught and jumped into gear. As he was driving down the road, up to 45 mph, the rpms began jumping from about 30 mph, maybe 100-200 rpm.
When he got home he said he shut the truck off and smelled some burnt trans fluid. Didn't smell anything while he was driving. We went out to drive it around the neighborhood and put it in reverse and it seemed to slip twice then backed up with no problem. We're frustrated from reading through all the threads and no one posting what actually fixed their problems. Any help would be greatly appreciated. He's not going to drive it until we figure it out and is either going to be in the '74 Duster, which isn't a big deal for him, or one of the extra Ford trucks we have, which he hates.
