how long does a clutch last

Just wondering if everyone ever replaced a clutch or bought a vehicle new how long they last under normal driving

Really just depends on how you drive it. If you take care of your car and dont dog it when you drive it usually around 170k i'd say. My dad had one and didnt have to change the clutch til 195k. And he was the only owner of the car and it had never been changed before. I've heard of people having to change at 100k, it all just depends on how hard you drive it and if you put a lot of wear and tear on it. Also by putting bigger tires on and not upgrading gears to the right ratio will cause the clutch to burn out a lot faster.

i was just wondering. The 85 i have now was owned by my previous job for 9 years and me and everyone else beat that thing. Im surprised it still works

then don't knock it.
a guy i worked with, had a '85 Escort GT (yeah, i know), owned it from day one, never ever abused it, and sold the car with just under 213K on it-and the original clutch.

Ha on the other hand my buddy in high school put 3 clutches in a VW Rabbit in 1.5 years. Of course we beat the crappola out of that car. 0-60 in...well we never kept an eye on the time...lol

not to hijack a thread, but how much do you think I would be looking at to replace the clutch in my 96?

Thats probably all in labor. Probably better off just making a phone call around. Probably different in different areas. S10s aer usually pretty easy as long as no bolts break
