If you can put it in yourself, a salvage yard would be your best bet. Find a low mileage unit check for leaks if still in the vehicle. If the vehicle was wrecked look at the condition of the unwrecked portion of the vehicle does it look wrecked but not abused. You knowa vehicle could be in great shaped but just wrecked, you know most insurances willwrite off vehicles now instead of repairing. You could also try going to an auto parts store which sells refurbished or remanufactured whatever you want to call it. Just look in the phone book or internet search for dealers in your area. If you want to have someone else do it look for a AAMCO Transmission place or a transmission repair shop that also deals with transfercases. Call a few places see who gives you the best deal. As for price it is going to depend on where you are located and what all is envolved. When I had some work done on mine last year the guy said had he pulled the trans out it would have been an extra 250.00 bucks plus tax and fluid. As for a junk yard trans anywhere from 400-600 maybe more depends on whose got it and what they want for it. Hope this helps.
If you are doing it yourself look in the DIY section on this forum Hanr3 has a great pretty much step by step with pictures no less.
Good Luck.
