I've replaced the fuel pump/filter/pump relay/spark plugs/spark wires after my 89 4.3 4whl 208kdied one day. The new pump-relay fixed the problem, but it got 5-6mpg afterwards and ran like crap (misfire or out of time). The new plugs made no difference. When I re-istalled the fuel pump Ibroke 3 out of the 4 plastic claps I had so I just didn't put one on the short hose in the fuel tank (the hose pumping fuel to the engine). I don't know if that's my problem or if there is something I did that requires me to re-time the truck. Also what kind of wrench am I suppose to use to loosen the distributor bolt?

sure would help if you added to teh original thread, when you create a new thread we lose the history of information and have to start over. I rarely remember each and every members posts about the issues they are having and often reread the thread until I remember.
As for what you did post. Got gas in the oil?
If so you ay have the wrong FPR. When I replaced mine I got the wrong unit, it was in the right box, but it was the wrong unit. Exchanged it for the right one and that took care of that problem.
Do you ahve a CEL? If so, what is the code.
Sure you got he plug wires in the correct order?

Yeah, I'm still new to forums, this is the first one I've belonged to and posted topics. I'll remember your advice about including the original thread.
I'll check for oil in the gas tommorow, there's some white smoke when it starts and the exuast smells bad, almost rotten. I'm sure the firing order is right, I followed the instructions in the Chilton, but my dist doesn't line up like the picture shows. I'm puzzled because it ran great before I replaced the pumpect. I'll look into a different relay. Thanks.
