IAC valve question
I just finished cleaning my throttle body and the iac valve hoping to eliminate my fast idle problem. I was wondering if the valve pintle is spring loaded. I am pushing on mine with my thumb and nothing moves?

I have another question. How does the IAC work or more specifically, what does it do? It is bolted to the throttle body and the pintle ends up in an empty cavity. Or maybe I lost a part when I turned it upside down to clean !

The IAC should have a shaft, wrapped with a spring, with a bell-shaped plug on the end of it that seats into a small socket in the throttle body to regulate air flow.
In the IAC assembly is a motor that pushes/pulls the shaft and the bell shaped end. The last one I had to change was froze up. It ohmed out good, 50 ohms, and you could hear it trying to move, but it wouldn't. I replaced it with a new one, which ohmed out the same, but when you pushed/pulled on the shaft of the new one it would move...hesitantly.
After I had installed the new one I whacked on the old one a few times with a screwdriver handle and it freed up as well. So now I have a spare
I think if they ever set up for a while, the IAC is just prone to freezing up.
