Default Looking for an 4X4 vacuum diagram...

Hi,

We just got a good-sized blizzard here in NE WI, and of course that's when I find out the 4-wheel drive on my '99 4-door doesn't work. Pressing the 4HI button just causes the light to blink, and nothing else. Pressing the 4LO button causes the ususal clunk sound of the gear range shifting into low, but then the light just blinks. I don't think the front axle is being engaged in either case.

I did a little troubleshooting today. Pulled the battery out to check out the vacuum actuator, found barely any battery tray left. Mostly rust with holes. Gotta replace it. Anyway, the actuator, while rusty, holds fine, and shows no signs of degradation in the rubber.

I then backtracked with the vacuum hose over to the solenoid valve on the firewall, and checked that manually. At least I can say it is moving internnally. If one were to back-feed compressed air to the solenoid valve (from the actuator), is it supposed to vent out the hole in the top?

Continuing on upstream, beyond the solenoid valve, I got to a strange T-fitting. The side facing the solenoid valve just has a hose barb, while the other side kind of resembles a tiny inline fuel filter, but with two hose barbs. Anyway the vacuum hose branches off here, with one hose disappearing into a wire-loomed harness, just behind the antilock brake controller, and the other just hanging in free space. This latter hose is only about 6-8" long and appears to be very degraded (crunchy and powdery). I cannot tell where it is supposed to go, but something tells me it is not supposed to just hang there, sucking air.

So, can someone point me towards a diagram, drawing, or picture that shows the final destination of this mystery hose? I could post some photos here if it would be helpful, so let me know...
