Hi, i'm new to the boards i'm a huge honda fan, but recently i've gotten tired of little cars, i recently bought a 95 s10 blazer 4x4 4.3 v6, and its developed a rod knock, i have called around and havent exactly found a motor anywhere, but i did hear that i could ONLY use a 95 blazer motor, is this true?
Anybody have a how to or write up on a motor swap on one of these? I know its not that hard i just havent had a chance to get a chiltons manual for the truck yet.

depends on your vin code, if your vin says you have a "W" series you look for a W series motor, if its an X series, get an X series motor. 4.3's are all 4.3's, not that many differences in years, just intakes.

not to hard, and i cant tell you "exactly what truck engines" will work, its all about the vin code on the block of the motor, check your vin code on your dash to see if it has an X or a W, if its a W you need a W series, if X need an X series, call around after you find out your vin code.

'95 is the bastard year.
'96 and newer and you will need to swap the heads and intake.
This article ought to help you understand better.

How hard is it too pull, not very.
Disconnect all wires, hoses, a/c, power steering pump, tranny and exhaust. Take the hood off and pull it stright up. Plan on a weekend or two if this is your first time. Plan on a coupl emore weekends to install the newer engine. Get the manual, get a bunch of plastic bags to put your nutss and bolts into, then mark them, mark your wires and hoses, take a ton of pictures before you take things apart.
Me, I just memorized everything and where it goes. I did put all the nuts and bolts with the parts they go to so I didnt mix them up. Otherwise its a big puszzle, and if you have expierience under the hood working on 4.3L you can figure it out. If not, and you get lost, post up and we can walk you through it.
Forget to add, pull the radiator.

Awsome man, that was really informative, i'm guessing the intake manifolds dont bolt up to the 96 up heads, and theres no way to get around that right?
If i know my heads are good, anyone know where i can find a good rebuilt shortblock?

and one more thing, did other 95's (astrovan, s10, c1500) use the same 4.3?

yes, they all used the same 4.3, any 4.3 block will work as long as it is the same vin code, you can get one from a junkyard for like 200 bucks, then buy a rebuild kit which comes with pistons, rods, crank, bearings, rings, everything you would need for a complete bottom end rebuild.

they dont even need to be the same vin code. Teh vin code is typically for fuel injection system, and since your dropping your current intake and heads on teh block, the block deosn't really matter much. It would be preferred to geta '93 or newer one though. Post '93 has the internal balance shaft and different timing covers.
