Default need help - have codes

I have a 97 Blazer - 96k miles runs great, shifts great. service engine soon light came on, and has been on now for 2 days. I just took it to a parts store and had the computer scanned. It came back with P1870 - the guy said it had something to do with the transmission slipping. Second code was P0147 - this has something to do with the O2 sensor I think.
O2 sensor I canreplace - just don't know which one to change. I am worried about the transmission code - but the car shifts perfect in all gears, hot or cold.

Any know what I need to fix, any help would be great.

Thanks, Steve

Default RE: need help - have codes

P1870 - Transmission Component Slipping
CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION
The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) monitors the difference between engine speed and transmission output speed. In D3 drive range with the TCC engaged, the engine speed should closely match the transmission output speed. In D4 drive range, with the TCC engaged, the TCC slip speed should be -20 to +50 RPM .

When the VCM detects excessive TCC slip when the TCC should be engaged, then DTC P1870 sets. DTC P1870 is a type B DTC.
There is a rather lengthy diagnostic trouble chart for this issue which requires quite a few specialized tools (Tech2 or equivalent scantool for one). The first thing would be to check the fluid level. If it is low, you could experience this issue. Beyond that, you are looking at opening up the transmission. If you do not notice any driveability concerns, reset the code and see if it returns. It could have been a fluke.

P0147 - HO2S Heater Circuit Bank 1 Sensor 3
B1S3 is the post cat sensor located directly behind the catalytic converter. I would first try clearing the code and see if it comes back. If it does, swap the post cat and pre cat sensors (B1S2 which is located directly ahead of the catalytic converter). Your truck should have 4 O2 sensors. The upstream sensors (B1S1 & B2S1) are used for fuel management of the engine while the down stream (B1S2 & B1S3) are used for catalyst monitoring only. If you swap the down stream sensors and the code follows to B1S2 (P0141 displayed instead of P0147), then replace the sensor.
