Default New Intake Manifold and LIM Gaskets. Need help with timing. TIA!

I recently installed a Marine Intake on my 2001 4.3 W VIN S10 ZR2. When I removed the distributor, I managed to either spin the oil pump or not mark the rotor / shaft correctly and it will not line up correctly. Therefore I started from scratch with the #1 TDC, Timing Lines lining up and trying to rotate the oil pump gear into the right space, however either my screwdriver isn't engaging the oil pump gears or something but I cannot spin the pump with anything but the distributor and crank bolt. Therefore my thought is to just spin the gears with the distributor in place via the crank bolt until the gears are into the approximate place (or a touch before) that I need them to be and then remove the distributor and set the #1 TDC etc.

I thought I have tried to done this successfully but I have some questions on the distributor markings.
The 6 and 8 that are cast into the dizzy represent what exactly?
Also based on the illustrations, I am aiming the rotor's metal contact between where the #1 cylinder plug routes to across the cap and the 6 that's on the dizzy base, is that correct? So roughly the front passenger headlight?

I understand that this questions seems to be asked a ton and appreciate any further help that someone can give me.

Thanks in advance!
