Default newbie engine q's

I just bought an 98 2wd that was in need of an engine. I purchased a motor out of an 01 to go into it. Well the motor came today and I have a couple of issues. First off the oil filter location on the 01 is not on the block as my old one was. My old unit cannot be used ( please dont ask why ) so where does the 01 filter go or is it at? It looks as if the oil cooler lines are the same so the filter in an 01 must be down the line somewhere.?.

Secondly on the back of the block behind the distributor ther are two sensors on both years. On the 01 going in the lower sensor is diffearnt than the 98 and in fact the old sensor threads are much larger than the 01 block. I'm ghuessing this is the oil pressure sensor for the pressure gauge? If not what is it and what if it's not hooked up? I just put the engine in toninght and it would be a pain to remove the sensor now.

Lastly when the motor came the crank sensor was brken off and I swapped mine from the 98 over as the motor ran fine just knocked like a mother so will this be alright?

Sorry for the q's in my first post but you guys seem to know alot!!!!

The sensors at the back should be the same in function. You will probably have to get the 2001 sensor connector and wire it in to your wiring.

The 2001 block is likely out of a 4wd truck which does not have the oil filter located on the engine like a 2wd truck would. You may have to find an oil filter adapter from another 2wd vehicle if you no longer have the one from your old engine.

The crank sensor should be fine.

The problem with the sensor is that mine ( the 98 ) has 1 wire going to it an the 01 has 2 wires going to it.

Where is the oil filter located on a 4x4 and yes the truck was indeed this that the motor came out of.

On a 4wd, the oil filter is located under the radiator in the remote filter housing.

I took a look at the respective wiring diagrams and the new knock sensor has a signal and return which the old sensor is resistance based... Different operation. I believe you could drill and tap the location out for the larger size. It should be a regular NPT thread.

What willhappen if I run without this? If indeed a knock sensor would it throw a code if not utilized?

Drilling and tapping is out of the question now as I put the motor in already. Thanks for all the imput.

It will throw a code and probably not run at full efficiency. The knock sensor is used to control spark advance.

Could the sensor be relocated? Would it matter where it is located as placing this elswhere might be an easier alternative.

Possibly, but the best solution would be to drill and tap the location on the bell housing. There should be another sensor on the side of the block.
