Oil Pan Help!!!! plz
 

i have a 83 blazer with the 2.8 carb motor in it, just picked up the truck from my girlfriends mother not to long ago and trying to get it back on the road...
....this is where i need help or some ideas or tips, the oil pan drain plug is welded shut( not sure why or how, i believe cuz the plug could have possibly been stripped but was like this when i picked it up). i dont have the equipment or capability to replace the oil pan even though i would love too. what i was thinking is punching a new whole in the bottom of the oil pan and using a rubber mushroom head seal/plug to seal the whole after the oil was drained..... i still need to do the oil change and if you dont think this is a good idea please please let me know and offer an idea how i could change the oil...

i was also thinking of possiblly taking off the valve cover and go threw like that or even the oil pump possibly, plz let me know what you guys think i could do

You would be better off replacing the oil pan. Drilling a hole and trying to seal it with basically a roofing screw is asking for leaks. The pan isn't thick enough to hold a screw and all it would take is a bump on the screw head and oil pouring out.

I would remove the welded in plud and tap it a hair bigger.

alright man thanks, i would like to replace the oil pan but i dont have a way to lift the engine or drop the cross-member,

as far as you saying remove the welded plug and tap it a little bigger..... stick what into the bigger hole? a new plug or j.b. weld possibly?

A bigger oil drain plug, there is more than one size out there.

oh alright i see, my bad for all the questions...but only thing i dont understand is if i tap the hole a little bigger and stick a new oil plug in it, how am i gonna get it to grab, for instance do i just slam it in there or try to ratchet it in there?


i dont have the tool that re-threads holes either, working with a slim budget

you need the tool to re thread it

A tap is used to cut new threads in a hole.

You drill a hole of the correct size then use a tap to cut the threads.

oh wow this seems like its gonna be a fun expendenture, but alright man thanks for the help, im gonna look further into what you said and give it a whirl
