Default Oil pressure drops on idle

Not sure about this one, but the blazer loses oil pressure when I stop at lights lately. It goes back up if I rev it, but not to sure what' the cause. Oil levels are good just the pressure issue...

any ideas? Would like to solve before any major issue begins.

When you say drops at idle. like, to 0? It is natural for the oil pressure to drop at idle and raise when you are accelerating.

What values do you read for the pressure when at idle, accelerating, cruising?

Any other issues going on with the engine?

The pressure sender can go wrong but if the value when running is where it should be perhaps the pump is worn out?

oil pressure higher when cold, around 60. Once warm 40 at highway and around 20 at idle is normal

I'd start with an oil and filter change..Maybe you have a crud blockage in the filter...Just keep the old filter so you can cut it open and have a look to see whats in there.

If the same thing is happening, change the oil pressure sending unit as it may be on t's way out...

If the issue persists, then I'd pop and actual oil pressure gauge on it and see what it says.

Usually when driving my needle will stay right in the middle(275) and idling is just follow it. But it' dropping right down to zero at stop lights.

thanks for the ideas, I will check them out and keep an update on the issue

FYI 20 psi = 140 kPa. First change oil and fillter with 5w30. If problem persists either put a real gauge on it or change the sending unit and compare.

One thing I forgot to add...When you do change that filter and open it up, if you see any metal shrapnel, stop right there.. If you don't see any metal , then carry on...

If there was a blockage the pressure would be high

Unless the blockage was oil pump shrapnel caught n the filter...
