Default Oil pump replacement

So I've completely removed my entire front suspension on my 2000 4x4 blazer for a rebuild. I'm debating putting a new oil pump in the motor while I have access. I have the typical low oil presser issue. I've never done this on a motor still in a car. how do I make sure that the rod for the oil pump and distributor go in correctly? I think I am overthinking the whole process. Anyone ever done it this way? Any pointers?

Hello Mason,
I see nobody has given you any thoughts on this but I will say this, it really makes no difference to the pump if the shaft is in this way or that. It can not be 180 deg out as the distributor can, as long as the collar of the pump engages the bottom of the distributor shaft your golden bro..

This is true, as long as you don't try to bolt up the pump with the shaft not aligned to the distributor. Make sure you rotate the shaft with your fingers until it engages. You don't have to worry about the distributor rotating because the drive gear on the camshaft will hold it. Just snap the collar on, install the shaft to the pump, and stick it up the hole. Then, with light pressure on it, rotate the shaft until it "clicks" into engagement with the distributor and torque the bolt. Easy peasy.

Default Oil pump replacement

Thanks for the input. I’m going to hopefully accomplish the oil pump replacement this weekend so I can start putting the front end back together.
