That's kind of what I was wondering but I didn't know that with these that one tooth would result in a 35 degree difference. I advanced the distributor and now it's showing that the cam retard is 0 degrees and my code is gone. The engine runs much better than when I replaced the distributor but it doesn't run as well as it did when I was a tooth off. When I was a tooth off, I had no misfires but now that it is corrected it is running with the same misfires as before. It does run much better and you can throttle up without stuttering now. So, my next step is going to be having an exhaust made for it and get the other two downstream o2 sensors installed again. If y'all have any other ideas, let me know. I won't be able to get an exhaust made for it until the weekend, so I have time to test and check more if need be.

..we sure that the distrubtor cam sensor rotor is not off-center? i.e the little plate under the rotor that the cam sensor is actually looking at. try resetting everything at TDC with the rotor pointing at #6 stamped on the distributor body with the balancer marks aligned, then pull the rotor and check the position of the plate. given a minute i can go out to my rig and check where it should actually be,assuming i can find any of my damn tools..
i seem to remember aftermarket distributors having this issue occasionally where the plate is not pressed on in the correct location, usually resulting in issues like this. what brand of distributor did you get?

I got a generic SKG distributor. I would appreciate if you would get that for me. It's raining now but I will pull everything tomorrow and see what I can see. I am unsure of exactly what I should be seeing so any information would be appreciated. Thank you.

I took a look like you suggested but there isn't any way to adjust the rotor on the plate. So if I move the plate, the rotor will just follow. I don't know the history of the engine other than the fact that it was installed but never started. It sat for a while and got some water in the cylinders. I cleaned everything out and checked the compression before I started doing anything else. I checked to make sure everything was able to be spun and that the cylinders didn't leak. I did not check the timing chain however, and now I am regretting it. I am wondering if maybe the engine had skipped timing at some point. I wouldn't be impossible considering the issues I have had with it before I got it running.

if it was mechanically off it would have never ran to begin with. these motors are picky about it, ask me how i know....
the plate is non adjustable, return that distributor and get a delco unit, its not worth messing with others given the track record after market ignition components have with these trucks. To verify, Compression is good, fuel pressure is good, Ruled out all vacuum leaks, verified Cam sensor is not destroyed, nicked, or any sort of damage to it or its wiring, and that the distributor or cam gear is not exhibiting excessive wear. how much does the rotor wiggle when turned by hand?
