Default sealants on gaskets?

Leaking water pump, will replace thermostat also while apart and flush. Is it recommended to use any kind of sealant on the gaskets or just put them on without. Was wondering if some of the silicone came off later inside if it would hurt anything. I'm a pretty meesy guy.

I put that blue silcone for the cooling system everywhere. Don't go overboard! Just enuff to make I nice seal! and It shouldent hert a thing just give it at least Half of the recamended drying time. I have installed many waterpumps and put that stuff on everytime, and half the time not even give it time to dry.
