P0301 code, high HC's on smog
First of all excuse my wording, I'm a woman & not a mechanic.
1998 6cyl 2wd Chevy Blazer
Had no problem smogging it 2yrs ago. Now it's my spare vehicle. Took it to a county program to get assistance if it failed. I'm skeptical of this shop but it's the only one authorized by this program in my city. The shop told me it had aP0301 code, cyl 1 misfire. HC's are high on the pretest. At 15 mph measured 96 & at 25 mph measured 34.
They told me it needed a $1400.00 valve job.
I just want this to pass smog so I can give it to my sons father to help him find a job. A couple friends are telling me to replaces plugs, wires, distrib cap & fuel pump. Obviously I'm trying to do it the least expensive way. But I don't want to waste money on replacing these items if it's pointless. Or if anyone has other suggestions. Thanks in advance
