Default Please help!! 2002 blazer 4.3L wont stay running

Hi,
I have a 2002 Chevy Blazer 4dr 4.3L V6 4x4. I bought it 5 weeks ago, of that 5 weeks it has run a total of 10 days.

Here is how it started, My brother in law was driving it and got stuck in the mud. He put it in 4wd, got out just fine. When he put he it back in 2 wheel, and went to drive home he got about 10 miles before it died on him. He said before it died it was misfiring and backfiring, it smelled like sulfar. I went to his rescue. When I got there I was able to get it started and made it about 5 miles before it died on me. Waited a minute and got it started back I got it home which was about 3miles, as I pulled in the drive it died again.

I racked my brain, I've worked on cars for 20 years almost and have never seen the issues I'm having out it.
I first had the fuel pressure tested it was 59psi., I had the fuel filter changed that day, got it back ran good for about 5 miles and after that it died 3 times in 3 miles.

I had it taken to an exhaust shop, Bought a Cat for it had it put it on. picked it up the old Cat was burned out, it ran good when I picked it up all the way home a total of about 18 miles. That same night my Brother-in-law took it out was going to the gas station and only made it to the end of my road about 1.5 miles before it died. We towed it home.

This past Thursday I had it towed to a local mechanic who said it needed the ignition module, so he put a new one on, and this morning it was running really rough and this afternoon on the way home it died again. It ran good for 4.5 days and then started doing the same things as originally had been noticed: Lack of acceleration, backfiring, sputtering, and eventually dying and then it wont start back at all, sometimes it will start the next day sometimes it has taken up to a week and work done to it

So please if you can help me. I'm a full time college student who is now taking 2 people to work in the morning one by 7:30am and one by 9am and then have to be in class @ 9:30am and having to have both picked up by 5:00 and 5:45 on the opp. side of town. Any help would be greatly appreciated. This has completely stumped me and I've been doing this kind of work for 20 years, I'm going to school to open my own garage but this is something me nor 2 other mechanics can fix.

P.S. wires, plugs, disb. cap, and pin, have been checked and are good. The only code it is giving me is an O2 sensor code (sensor1,bay1).

During the no-start condition (important to be in no-start condition).

1) clip a loose spark plug into the end of a spark plug wire, ground the spark plug to something metal with vice grips, and have someone crank while watching for spark
2) test fuel pressure during cranking.
3) pull a few spark plugs and look at the electrode/porcelain right after pulling it out. If wet and/or sooty - then too much fuel.

Report your findings and I will help.

everything is good with fuel pressure and spark plugs are getting spark. I've been told to check the timing on it and that is where it will be going to in the morning to have it worked on. its like the only thing I haven't checked as far as ignition system issues.

Was it just mud he got stuck in, or was there a bunch of standing water? It kinda sounds like you may have some water in the distributor. It wouldn't hurt to pull the cap off and check for moisture. Maybe even blow it out with an air hose.
