Unhappy please need hellp

OK as it says i need help my 96 blazer (4.3 vortec ) died on us about two days before Xmas and my fiance was driving it to work she called me like two min after she left saying it died she said she heard a ticking sound then she said she lost power and she pulled over and it just stalled when she parked and not will not turn over. the motor still turns over freely no metal shavings in oil ( had oil changed on the 11th of Dec this year) still fresh oil not milky or anything but when turning over it sometime acts like it wants to start other times it kinda fast but not i know im not much help im not that great of a diagnostic person im more of a Volkswagen guy but any help would be appreciated ... im just at a loss at this moment as i don't have alot of money to have it fixed and is our only means of transportation. but what i do have is another blazer that has the same motor but is a really big gas hog so we dot even bother driving it

First thing to do is to check if there are any trouble codes stored in the computer, and then report them back here. There are many things that could cause the truck to die like that, but you need to start by narrowing the possibilities so people here can help you diagnose the issue.

This.

You can probably forget the alternator...you said it still cranks strong after it died, but if the alternator went out and the battery was drained then it would crank really slowly or not at all.
