I've got a friend who keeps asking me to put a transmission in his blazer (old onehas been pulledout and he has new one ready).
I've never put a 4x4 transmission/ transfer in a blazer but based on what I've seen in the past it's a pretty tight space to work in. I haven't looked at his yet to know how tough it will be.
Just curious to see what your thoughts are, is it a VERY tough or just FAIRLY tough job?
Would $125 be a fair price to charge?
Since I wasn't the one who took it out, is their any surprises I can avoid finding out the hard way or "tricks" you may want to offer up?
Thanks in advance.

Not bad really...
As far as tricks, you can remove the distributor (so as not to damage it on the firewall) and drop the back of the motor down, giving you access to the top most bolts. You will need a swivel socket set (not just a swivel extension) and about 3 feet of extensions to get to them. Other than that, keep the back of the transmission down a bit to assemble the transfer case, then put everything back as you normally would.

Thanks man, I appreciate the info...
I'll pick up a set of swivel sockets, I've been able to manage witout them for years, but it would be a nice addition to the tool box!
Thanks again.

Tips, tricks, and things to watch for. Tons of them. Read the tech article and ask away.
As for $125, depends. The first time I dropped the tranny it took me all weekend. It also took me all weekend to reinstall the same tranny in the truck I dropped it out of, and I remembered where every nut, bolt, wire, hose, clamp went. A good tech can drop the tranny in 4 hours, and reinstall it in another 4 hours. You are walking into a job that someone else started, do you know where all teh parts are and are they labeled or grouped with thier respective components?
