putting an 87 4.3 into a 93....couple of questions
A buddy of mine has a 1987 caprice classic. 9x,xxx miles. Its a one owner, and runs like a dream. His grampa launched off a curb, into traffic, got hit, spun around and finally came to rest against a tree. Totalled the car, but the drivetrain is unharmed. It is TBI, and mine is the vortec. My engine has
184,000 miles, and is getting a little tired. she needs valve guide seals, and what not, so she smokes a little (OK A LOT) when she is first started, BUT the bottom end is still solid, no knocks, or noises.
What is the difference between the engines, besides the obvious? will it be a direct bolt in? What are the HP differences? Do the heads in the blazer make it the vortec?
If I got the engine, I will be putting the top end from my engine onto the 87 block. I might leave the caprice heads on the block, and just put the EFI intake on, unless to keep it vortec, I need to keep the vortec heads. If I pull the heads off of the blazer motor, I might as well just rebuild them due to it needing valve guide seals, and reinstall them onto the blazer and save myself the trouble of the swap.....
I dont know if it is even worth it. Especially if the caprice makes less power and will be more of a burden to swap. The only advantage I can think of is 100,000 less miles. I hate to pass this engine up. It just runs so great. Id love to have it in my blazer......
I guess I need to justify trading my 85 dodge ram, running, driving truck, for just an engine lol.........only if I can "plug and play" the caprice engine into the blazer.....Is it possible????
