quick question

i am replacing my lower intake manifold gasket on my 97 blazer is it absolutely necessary to remove the cooling fan i cant seem to find a tool big enough in my town to take it off autozone keeps trying to give me the wrong stuff

No, you don't have to take off the fan. Because of the number of pictures provided, I like this LIM how-to the best:
