removing PS pump
The special tool is the only way that I would recommend someone remove the pulley. There are other ways, but all of them will result in damage to the pulley. Some autoparts stores rent out this puller at no cost (aside from a deposit which you get back in full when you return the tool).

yea i got it today for 34 bucks. now the only thing thats keeping me from getting to the pulley is the fan. how do i remove that? Im trying to remove the lower intake manifold to replace the gasket. The only thing thats keeping me from removing it is the lower right corner bolt and a hose behind that. the power steering pump bracket for the ac, you know that whole unit is getting in my way. so far i removed the distributor, the upper intake manifold, cap, rotor, plugs, coil, sensors, most the bolts around the intake manifolds, and everything else im sure im supposed to be taking off. if you guys think im doing anything wrong let me know. i got the alldata intructions on it but i havent read them in a while. i never really worked on my truck and now it seems like chevys are a pain in the ***.
You need a big crescent wrench and a screwdriver. Use the screwdriver to pry between the small bolts to stop it from spinning when turning the big nut behind the fan.

I have done it like that before. My favorite method is to just leave the belt on. Then put a big crescent wrench on it and smack it with a hammer.
If the belt does not provide enough resistance, and you have some extra hands at your disposal, then put a breaker bar on the tension pulley and instead of loosening it, tighten it. Works like a charm!
