Default Replace or Rebiuld my 4L60E

I have a 2004 4x4 Blazer. Last Monday I went to Lowe's Hardware with no problems. Tuesday my wife left the house and got about 3 blocks. When she pressed the gas nothing would happen. When I got there I tried all gears including reverse, nothing it acted like it was in neutral. I had it towed to the local Chevy dealer.

They called me today. They told me the filter is clogged with metal shavings. It will be $3,400 to put in another transmission. So far I owe them $125. For them to drop the pan and give me a price to repair my transmission will be another $175. They also said the cost to repair mine could be more than the $3,400 to replace it.

What should I Do?

I was thinking of getting a rebuilt one for 800 or so and pay my daughters boy friend's cousin 300 to install it.

Any good place online to get a tranny at a good price?

What should I watch out for when looking for a transmission?

Will I be ok just asking for a 4L60E and giving them my VIN number?

Thanks
Jim

If you can find a good tranny shop I would say have it rebuilt. Unfortunately a lot of them are crooks and do the bare minium to get your trans running again but charge you for a full rebuild. Most of their warranties suck and when your trans is toast again shortly afterward you are on your own. I ended up buying a GM reman trans (3 year/100,000 km warranty if I remember right) for our Blazer on sale and had it installed by the tech I send some of my stuff to for cheaper than I could find a shop around here to half-*** it. Good Luck on your search.

AAMCO wants $1,800 to $2,400 to rebuild. 12 month 12,000 mile warranty.

I called two local shops at random one was $2,600 forgot the warranty and the other was $2,299 and 5 year 150,000 mile warranty.

I only have $1,400 bucks right now. AAMCO says they will finance but their warranty sucks and they want $300 more for a 3 year 36,000 mile warranty.

Is it a crap shoot ordering a transmission online?
Any reputable places online?

Thanks
Jim
