I'm wondering if you are talking about the same lever as I am...

Is it this one?

Thank you for all that effort !!!

My **** is different.

It has metal bar going into the rest of things. There must be a way to release it but I can't figure it out yet.

It really looks like I could break things.

Haven't had time to get photos of my situation yet....planting before the rain coming tonight.

I'm beat. Maybe tomorrow.

I am kinda doubting the switch is to blame .... but who knows.

Thanks again !

Thanks.

I finally took some photos. That lever handle, and some general engine stuff to give an idea of the condition of things.

unless wires go south under the corrugated wrappers with no exterior damage showing I find it hard to believe the wires in there are the issue.

Every connector I inspected looked fine.

Just to add this information which might make a difference: The ignition system is the EDI 'enhanced distributor ignition'

The haynes manual is missing some of the the trouble shooting sections for this type . section 5-6 is missing the EDI part and 5-7 references that missing info. haynes has not yet responded to my inquiry about that (last week.)

I was surprised to see smooth metal, I was expecting something with teeth ... but if I think of a simple magneto those are smooth ....

so I marked it with a marker. It definitely rotates when the starter is bumped.

feels solidly attached as best can be checked via that hole.

So what next?

thanks !!.

I think part of the key to solving this has to do with the fact that this is EDI. Whenever I see trouble shooting like at easyautodiagnostics it looks like it for the HEI not EDI.

for example they show this

but my coil connection does not have that middle wire which is the tack signal.. So where does the tach signal come from on EDI?

Also, all the wiring diagrams I find are probably NOT for EDI.

Anybody familiar with the nuance that is kickin my hinder?

thanks

not sure why the image does not make it ...https://easyautodiagnostics.com/imag.../image_E_1.jpg
