Question Replacing Oil Pump 1985 Jimmy 2.8

Hi everyone, this is my first post.
BTW Great forum
Anyways, my daughter bought a 1985 Jimmy 4x4 with a 2.8 V6.
Very nice looking inside and out. I wasn't happy that she didn't ask to look at it with her, took her boyfriend instead... Great Huh..???
She had it on the road for about 2 weeks before a loud knock in the bottom half of the engine started.
I changed the oil and filer, yes there was some metal in the oil.
I pulled the broken oil pressure switch. Tested with gauge, barely any pressure. So the question is how hard is it to replace the oil pump??
Can you get away with dropping the oil pan without pulling the engine??
Sorry for the long post... Thanks

Easiest way is to pull the engine. Not enough room to drop the pan with the front axle in place. You still have the crossmember in the way.
