Default SAS Transmission Support beam???

Ok so I plan on doing a SAS (leaf spring) and using ford axles so I can keep the stock transfer case and I noticed that stock with independent the front drive shaft runs along on top of the transmission support beam. So the new drive shaft would have to be at a really low angle to go underneath it, has anyone had this problem and what can be done to "fix" it???

You have to modifiy the support to give the drive shaft clearance.

Rex, do you know of a thread that talks about someone having to do that?? I either didn't pay attention or just didn't see it when reading the SAS threads on here. But this is something i have never taken into consideration so i am curious now as well! I have heard that you usually have to move or make a new front cross member tho.

Yeah I misworded my original post lol! I should have said you MAY need to modify the cross member. Heres a good shot of one that is nicely done. Really its just a matter of notching it out enough to make clearance for the shaft. 4wdfactory used to sell one but I'm not sure they do anymore.

On my Blazer, there was no way to use the factory crossmember. I even tried using an old 1.5" diameter Jeep CJ driveshaft and it wouldnt fit.

Here's how I did mine:

Ohh ok yeah that makes sense. I mean a cross member wouldn't be too hard to make. I just never thought about that part.

It's just one of those little details that is easily overlooked with everything else that's going on in an sas swap.

A SYE is also a necessity when you get over about 5-6" of lift as well. I have not been able to get rid of my rear driveshaft vibration no matter how I change the angles, so once it warms up, in goes the SYE and CV.

You would still have to modify the cross member for clearance it would just be on the other side!! Not sure of your logic on this one?
