Default Service Engine Soon Light

Just bought a 97 blazer and the service engine soon light is on. The guy i bought it from said he thinks the distributor needs to be turned one way or the other. It does idle a little rough and is sometimes hard to start. The code that is coming up is a p1345. Can anyone tell me if this is an easy timing problem or not. The shop here wants $100.00 just to hook it up to their precious machine. Thanks!

Default RE: Service Engine Soon Light

The base timing cannot be changed on the 96+ SCFI motors.

P1345 Explained

showArrow("3/18/2008 4:17:20 PM",144426,225,false)As the link above explains, this could be a loose timing chain, a loose or cracked distributor drive gear, loose rotor, missing distributor hold down bolt, an incorrectly timed distributor, and/or faulty wiring. I have seen cracked distributor drive gears cause this error.

If you find that the rotor is on tight and that the hold down clamp/bolt are there and are tight, I would inspect the wiring harness and perform some simple continuity tests on the wires between the sensors and the PCM.

After that, you will probably have to pull the distributor and inspect the drive gear. If that checks out, I would retime the motor (EDI Engine Timing).
