Default Is it slipping?

Hey guys.. I own a 99 a/t blazer with 189,000 miles on it. All in all it is a prety good blazer. What I have been experiencing lately is when I let off the accelerater when comming to a turn or stop light but don't come to camplete stop and get back into the gas pedal the engine will rev a little before the transmission gets into gear? I try and be aware of it to try and feather the gas pedal and wait for the transmission to catch back up so there is not a jerk. Any road test to do to verify if it is a slipping problem or a time to get back in the right gear problem?

You may have bad shift solenoids (best case) or your cluthches may just be giving out (worst case). I would start with the shift solenoids as they are cheap and relativly easy to swap them out. Do a filter change while your in there as well and see if that helps any. If not I'm thinking the trans may be on its way out. Hopefully someone else will be along to throw out their thoughts as well!

It does seem like its slipping by the description you gave us,what does it do in 2cnd and 3rd?If its the same change fluid and filter imediately look for debris in the bottom of the pan before you spend $ on shift cylinoids. If you find material/debris in the bottom of the pan your clutchs internaly are going bad.

You can do that but to me I'd rather spend the money on the solonoids and have them there incase there is no debris so that way I can swap them then if need be rather than having to drop the pan again and spend more money on fluid not to mention the time involved. I got both solenoids for $25 so If I didn't use them I'm not out much. Or you can always return them Thats just my personall preference tho I guess!

if you are off the gas, and get back on it, there usually is a TINY delay as power is transferred to the rear end again.
However, nothing like you are describing, sounds like yours is slipping, I would do as already been suggested, and a fluid/filter change and solenoids.

A fluid change is due. Its been almost 30,000 miles since my last. I also read that if you drop the pan and find the thick material in the pan that you shouldn't clean that out. Change ther filter with a new one and put the old fluid back in, top off to the appropiate level. Have any of you heard the same thing?

Never heard that! I personally wouldn't leave anything floating around in there that could potentially harm the transmision.

Thats what I think as well, the article was implying that the thick material is the clutches material. And not removing it would allow that material to be circulated back throughout the system? I don't know if it goes along with the opionion of if you never change your transmission fluid then you shouldn't try and change it becuase it might make matters worse.
