Default Slipping trans.

I have a 96 blazer, auto trans, was driving the other day and the rpms all the sudden skyrocketed and my car slowed to a stop in the middle of the road. i shut the car off, put some Lucas stop slip in it, started it up, headed on my way, and it did the same thing about 250 yards down the road. i did this 4 or 5 times until i got it home and parked it. does this sound like a possible plugged filter?

I have the same problem I don't know what is wrong with it all the rest of my gears are ok. Does your blazer shift good when cold then slip when hot?

Did you actaully check your ATF level, warm.. in park?

I believe in Lucas for slips, but if it happened all of of a sudden it wont help. If slip comes on gradually, Lucas takes a couple hundred miles to work.

You have another problem than clutch/band slip.
Take it to to good shop and have the pump pressures checked.

Yes, i checked the fluid, i'm going to flush the fluid and replace the filter, if that doesn't fix it i'm replacing the tranny with a 5-speed.

That might work. But I suggest if you dont see the filter is covered with crud and the pan is relatively clean you stop there. and have a shop look at it.

Well.. good luck with that.

if replacing the filter doesnt work then, to me, the transmission is not worth fixing. the automatic transmissions in blazers are known for having problems, and once the start they dont stop. i would rather have the 5-speed anyways.

Really? From what I read on here, adjusted for the obvious, I wouldnt think so. Where'd you get that?

Well.. I can understand that. Simple as it is to do and all.
