So I have a 1996 Chevy Blazer as you know it comes stock with a vortec v6 well I am just not satisfied...I am looking into doing a v8 conversion and dropping a 5.7l vortec in instead. Believe me I know the ramifications and the scope of modifications I will have to perform to make this work but I was wondering if anyone has done this before or seen it done and could offer any pointers. Maybe just your opinions many say its overkill but i always did like to showboat lol. Thanks

96 is OBDII. Will you even be able to take it through emissions? Cuz here in Arizona they hook up OBDII through a scanner and if they find out that PCM programming has been tampered with, we fail and can't register the vehicle.
Obviously you will have to put in a new wiring harness and all new computers, but when I took my vehicle in, they had a good scanner and they had to plug in the year and engine size before they could do a DTC scan. Since the blazers don't come with a 5.7, that would be an easy indication that something has been tampered with.
I have seen this modification done on a 93 blazer, but since it was OBDI, all the person had to worry about was not putting out more emissions than the vehicle was allotted with the stock 6 cylinder.

In Spokane we do have to do emissions but we register our vehicles out of a different county so i never have and never will need to do emissions. I would fail now because my O2 sensor is out and is making the check engine light come on lol.

getting it to fit is the easy part. did one on a 95 a few years back. its just all the wiring and other little stuff that takes forever. go buy the conversion manual. it has write ups on fuel injection wiring
