Spark Plug/Wireset change. Any pointers?
I will be giving my 2000 Jimmy 4.3L 4x4 it's 100,000 mile tune up tomorrow. I will be changing the spark plugs and wires first.
These are the parts:
Champion Plugs: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/CPN-13/
Summit wires: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SUM-867650/
First off... I know these are not AC Delco, but how should they perform? And do these plugs need gapped or can I just screw them down?
This will be my first time doing a plug change, so any info or walkthroughs would be appreciated.

champions????
ive never had good luck with them. I always run delco's, or bosch. Even in my dodge, I run delco's
if its like my 03 was, the wires are run underneath the a/c compressor (i think thats what it was) and I couldnt get them back under it, so I ran them over it...if that makes any sense..its been 3 years, so im just going off memory lol
good luck

Basically just do one wire at a time so you dont go pulling them all off and going ummmmmm. I wouldnt use champion plugs, but thats up to you; most new plugs dont need to be gapped, but they should be all checked prior to install. I ran a set of bosch platinums I got cheap once, they only stayed in there for a few thousand before I went to a set of new acdelco platinums. If 00s have the same snaps for the wires that 97s do they can be a pain to get unsnapped when you can barley see them.

Well.. I got them changed out. After about 1 hour fighting, I finally figured out a good way to get the plug behind the steering column out. I used a spark plug socket and than slid a pivot-head ratcheting wrench on it. It worked extremely well.
The engine started right up and the idle and throttle response is much improved from what it used to be.
Thanks for the reply guys!
