Default Sqeaking sound?

There is a squeaking sound coming from my engine compartment. It squeaks about once every rotation of the belt. I'm not much of a mechanic but a little advice will help me understand what is wrong with my blazer. Its a 2002 Blazer Xtreme 4.3L. I recently took the belt off and put it back on because I changed the alternator. Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Could be the bearing in the alt you just installed if it wasn't there before. You could try removing the belt and starting it up to see if the squeak is still there. DO NOT RUN YOUR ENGINE FOR MORE THAN A MINUTE OR TWO!!! As long as your engine doesn't get up to temp and your battery is fully charge this will not hurt anything.

If the sqeak dissappears then you will know it has something to do with the belt, ie: alt, water pump, power steering pump, idler, fan clutch or a/c compressor. Don't think I left anything out.

Then again, it could be the belt itself...lol

the belt sometime gets dry and will squeek,at my work we put a lil vasoline on both sides of the belt and that usually helps keep the belt squeek free
