Is there any easy way of gettig stale gas out of the tank without removing the gas tank? Thanks

 

You can add some heat to the tank. It's a yellow bottle with a blue cap, you can get it at any parts store or truck stop or even convenience store. It's going to be poured into the tank and it magically removes the water from the petro. Don't ask me how, I don't know. I guess it's high in alcohol content.

 

The truck had been sitting for at least a year or better and has a little bit of gas in it. When I took the cap off it smells a little like varnish? I didn't know if I changed the fuel filter (hopefully it isn't inside of tank) and filled it up wether I would be okay or not? Will the heat get rid of the varnish smell also? Thanks

 

The fuel filter is along the drivers side frame rail, if I remember right...

 

You are correct sir!

I'd run atleast one tank of fuel with some fuel injector cleaner through the tank before even thinking about changing the fuel filter. If it just sat for a year, I wouldn't be too worried about the filter. Gas starts smelling bad after just a bit. It is always better to have a full tank than it is to have a half tank, much less room for the gas to vaporize and leak out, leaving behind that varnish.

With your present situation, I would just suggest you fill up the tank and drive it. Once you've gone through a few tanks of fuel, put a new filter on for some piece of mind. Run some injector cleaner through for a little more added piece of mind.
