Default Timing

1995 blazer 4.3 4x4
I have recently put in a new distributor and was told there was a wire I needed to disconnect then reconnect to reset the timing. Anyone know what color it is and where it's located?

I think the wire thing was for older first gens. Don't think you can do that on second gens.

Where is your computer located? Mine is 95, and it's on the passenger inner fender, and the wire trick isn't a thing. Other 95s had the computer like under the dash or something, and I wanna say the wire thing works

This will only work if you have the vertical towers on the distributor cap as this is the older HEI-esque ignition system. With the older system, you must first disconnect the timing wire that is located off the passenger side of the transmission tunnel inside the truck, just below the top of the carpet. After that, timing can be set with a typical timing light. Reconnect the wire once you have base timing set to spec.

The horizontal tower cap is the newer EDI timing system and base timing cannot be modified in this manner. Base timing can be adjusted, but a capable scan tool must be used to monitor the cam/crank correlation and get it within +/-2 degrees if I remember correctly.
