This may have been posted already...if so please direct me there...i couldnt find it.
I have a 96 Blazer, 4.3 v6, with 4wd. Ive noticed that when my truck reaches operating temp a loud rattle would happen when idling, but in higher RPMs the rattle stops...it seems to be coming from my transmission. I was told this was probably a loose torque converter and that I needed to remove the cover and tighten it up. I would like some opinions on the most trouble free way of doing this .
Thanks

well the only way to get to the toque converter bolts is through the hole where the starter is. You have to remove the starter to get at them. To me it sounds like your catalytic converter is broken up inside. Which is common. While its running crawl under and try to pin point the sound. The catalytic converter is right along side the transmission.

There's a removable cover on a 96 so checking the torque converter bolts wouldn't be too difficult.
Torque converter bolts wouldn't wait for the truck to reach operating temperature though so I doubt that is your problem. I would definitely check the cat.

Well Problem solved...It was the torque converter bolts, 2 out of three were loose enough to turn by hand. Had to go in through the starter...my transmission is a full bell housing with no inspection cover just a small hole. The cat is fine but there is a little rattle in the muffler. Otherwise there is no more rattling and its starting much better.
Thanks everyone for their input
