Default Tranny Fluid

Help! 1993 S10 Blazer 4.3 Vortex. Someone put regular ATF in my tranny. Now it doesn't want to shift into 1st. It barely moves after it warms up, but once I get out of 1st it shifts alright. Is my tranny ruined? What do I need to do? Someone please help. I have had one problem after another with this Blazer and I just want to drive it. By the way it only has 83000 mi. on it. Thank You!

I wouldn't drive it until I got all that trans fluid out. Possibly go to get it backflushed so that they pump new fluid in & it goes through the torque converter & replaces all the trans fluid with new. See about a cleaner for the trans like seafoam but I'm not sure if that's safe for a trans. Or undo a trans cooler line & put it in a oil drain pan, set the parking brake & put it in gear. That will spin the torque converter & pump out a lot of fluid BUT DO SO AT YOUR OWN RISK!!! I wouldn't let it pump all the fuild out, I'd pump out a lot, then fill it up with the proper fluid again & repeat.
I had a trans cooler line off my aux. cooler pop off at a stop light, 30 seconds later the blazer barely moved & it had lost over 5 quarts of fluid so keep in mind it pumps out fast. Get a friend to help.

lol ^ yep. i overfilled mine one time, popped off a cooler line to drain some out, started up the truck and holy cow will it go! best part is it shot into the fan, which pushed it all inside the engine compartment..

3 hours later i had a shiny clean engine compartment.
