tranny install

Ok I got how to do the actual transmission part and where everything hooks up. But i'm a little nervous about the torque converter that came with this used tranny it seems to feel like it's all the way back but it still seems like it wobbles or moves too much on the spline should there be a little play or should it fit tight with no side to side movment at all. If there is a something you have to do and make sure its on right before bolting it up?

It should feel tight and when put on the torque converter it should click 3 times before its alll the way back.
I had this issue when install my trans recently.I would bolt the 2 together and flywheel was getting hung up on the torque converter.
I probaly dropped the trans 5 times to check this.
Also if you have pre 96 you should have open area on the bottom where you can spin the converter.
If not and your belling house is the closed in style the only is to let the trans down and check the converter.

so do you have to turn the converter a certain way to get it too click or just push straight back back while listening for 3 clicks I.E 1989 4.3 4x4 w/700/r4 tranny

Turn it either way will work. I just did mine and it rubbed the pump. If it presses up against the flywheel hard when installing it, its not fully seated. Take your time, you`ll be fine

If it were me I would not put in a used torque converter.

Ok folks get ur thinking caps on. everything went good installing the tranny and the converter was about a 1/4 inch from the fly wheel so the bolts pulled it tight. But now this used tranny is doing about the same thing as the one i replaced. it came with the torque converter so i opted too use it instead of mine even though you could still wiggle it on the spline a little bit, but as before the drive and overdrive are slipping i would think different tranny different results no matter what they are not the same. So could there be something else? Like the vacuum lines to the tranny or tv cable? I have 30 day warranty exchange but i;m hoping i don't have to pull the tranny back out all though now i could do it in 2-3 hours no problem. If someone has any ideas I would love to hear them please. And once again thanx for all the help.

That`s a tough one, I changed my tranny because of the same thing(3-4) slipping and its was because the clutch pack was bad. Was the fluid clean looking and not burnt or blackish color in the new one?. All the fluids up to the right level? Would kinda suck to have to pull it back out

That is a tough one what are the chances two different tranny would have the same symtoms?The only thing I could suggest is take to a certified trans mechanic explain what you did and then maybe you can get to the root of the problem

it's a 89 blazer 4x4 4.3 but i got the tranny from the junk yard so i replaced the fluids

could be a solenoid on the plate. theres 2 off them both the same control different gears

Buy BWD Transmission Control Solenoid S9811 at Advance Auto Parts
